CU Men’s Soccer Presents: 2012 NIGHT OF NETS
A Night of Soccer
to Help Fight Malaria in Africa
*The Big IDEA:
The
CU men’s soccer program will host a fundraising event on September 26th,
2012. We are seeking to raise awareness and resources in the local Grand Rapids
soccer and CU campus communities to purchase bed nets to help stop the spread
of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa.
*Info About Malaria:
Every
night...more than 2,000 children die from malaria. Spread by
mosquitoes, malaria is one of the world’s deadliest predators, killing more
than 750,000 children under age of 5 every year and costing Africa’s economy
more than $12 billion in productivity.
*WHEN:
Wednesday
September 26th, 2012
7:00 PM EST Men’s Game against Aquinas College
*WHERE:
The
Golden Eagle Soccer Field on the CU campus in Grand Rapids, MI under our new lights…
*The Cost:
There
will be a $6 admission fee for this match. All the proceeds from this game will
go directly toward the prevention of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. Donations will also be taken at the event.
*The Impact:
For
just $6, World Vision will provide a long lasting, insecticide treated bed net
for at least 2 children that will reduce the incidence of malaria by between
50-60% in an African home. In summary,
every person who pays to attend this soccer match will personally help improve
and save lives for children in Africa!
*The Distribution:
The
bed nets purchased as a result of this event will be delivered to communities that World Vision connected us with in Zambia this summer.
*The Goal
The 2012
goal is to raise $10,000! The last
2 years we have been able to raise $6,500 for each event. We need everyone to
participate in order to achieve our goal. More details will be posted shortly.
