"Your heart is the starting place for character, and it's what gets God's attention. Character is what turns your giftedness into influence and unleashes God's power."
Andy Stanley

Here is an excerpt from The Catalyst Leader by Brad Lomenick regarding 3 Elements of Principled Leadership.
"A principled life is composed of at least three essential elements. Though these are not the only elements, they rank among the most important. Without committing to these three elements, leading is nearly impossible.

1. Humility: "Greatness is not about personality; it's about humility. Humility plus will. That is where the essence of leadership begins. But humility of a very special type. It is humility defined, an absolutely burning ambition that is channeled into a cause or an enterprise or set of values in a company or mission that is bigger than yourself. Combined with the utterly stoic role to do whatever it takes for that ambition."
Jim Collins- Good to Great

2. Discipline: Discipline is the 2nd essential element of a principled life. When I consider young leaders who are truly making a difference-the ones whose organizations and projects are innovative and effective-the one characteristic they all share is a commitment to hard work. As we lead, we must continually engage in the act of self-questioning. I suggest writing down critical questions once a year and then answering them honestly:
  • When I look at the sum total of my efforts this off-season so far, do I believe I’ve done my best work?
  • Have I finished everything that I’ve started, or have I left a wake of piecemeal projects behind? More specifically, did I follow through on connecting with my group, reading All In, praying for my teammates, and finish workouts?
  • Did I give in to the temptation to cut corners, and if so, how can I protect myself from taking those shortcuts in the future?
3. Integrity: In order to build integrity, must begin by identifying land mines. What are the areas in which you are most vulnerable? What are your hidden weaknesses that could blow up in your face? Once you identify these areas, establish an accountability system. Make the right thing easy to do and the wrong thing difficult.
When people see you living a life of integrity and accountability, they'll trust you."
Brad Lomenick-The Catalyst Leader
