The principle this week is Defining Moments. I love this cover for the Needtobreathe album-Daylight. Needtobreathe has come to be one of my favorite bands-they are not in the U2 category but they are getting up there....This Lion is a great reminder for me.
“Your
Life is Either a Celebration or a Chore.
The
Choice is Yours.”
Week of July 15-19
“Life is full of defining
moments. Like landmarks on a road map, these moments mark key points along your
life’s journey. A defining moment happens when you come face-to-face with a
truth that invites you to change the way you live. It demands that you make a
decision. And regardless of the choice you make, you will never be the same”….Andy
Stanley
The
2013 season will be filled with many defining moments for each and every one of
us-guaranteed! The big question will be how are we going to handle these
defining moments? Maybe it is an injury, not playing as much as you think you
should, a conflict with a coach or teammate, a goal that was not achieved, an
unexpected loss, or it could even be a specific choice that you make which you
know will negatively affect the team. No matter what, these are all moments of
great discomfort. You will be faced with these kinds of situations every day.
As a member of the men’s soccer program, you will be asked to sacrifice your comfort
for the benefit of the team. I think this is one of the greatest parts about being on a team, you know that your teammate/brother is right there with you. No matter what, at the end of the season, you will not be the same. Hopefully, your will decisions will help make you a better man because you were willing to be uncomfortable. Francis Chan states it this way, "But God doesn't call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through.”
One of my favorite all time books is Mark Batterson’s In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. A couple of years ago, Chip Huber gave me this book and it is this manifesto that I continue to go back to when I am face to face with a defining moment in my life. Here is the Lion Chaser’s Manifesto

“Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive
safely at death. Grab life by the mane. Set God-sized goals. Pursue
God-ordained passions. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine
intervention. Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God.
Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution. Stop repeating the
past and start creating the future. Stop playing it safe and start taking
risks. Accumulate experiences. Consider the lilies. Enjoy the journey. Find
every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. Live like today is the
first day and last day of your life. Don’t let what’s wrong with you keep you
from worshipping what’s right with God. Burn sinful bridges. Blaze new trails.
Criticize by creating. Worry less about what people think and more about what
God thinks. Don’t try to be who you’re not. Be yourself. Laugh at yourself.
Quit holding out. Quit holding back. Quit running away.”

starts at one end of the field and must sprint to the other end. At the end,
the player has the remainder of the minute to rest. The rest involves a run
back to starting point. For example, if a player runs the 120 in 20 seconds,
they will have 40 seconds to jog back to start line.
Goal
